Information about Robert

I am a well-qualified (M.Ed. [Science]) teacher and a successful practising tutor. I have many years’ experience of teaching school Science to children from ages 9-16 (KS2 - KS4). Now, with a busy and successful 10-year-old practice as a Private Tutor, I work with up to 20 individual students from local Independent Schools, Upper Schools and High Schools. I use my extensive experience to bring Science to life by broadening knowledge, fostering clear understanding, and greatly enhancing confidence. Down-to-earth good humoured explanations, along with structured and differentiated guidance through the hard-to-understand parts of the various new Exam Board syllabuses, plus practical help in exam technique and appropriate assessment for learning, are all designed to ensure the success that both students and their parents desire.

Whilst Covid-19 restrictions have been in force, my individual tutoring sessions have had to go online, using either Skype or Zoom. With effect from 7th June 2021, I hope to be able to revert to face-to-face tuition.

Please note that I am now prioritising students in Years 10 and 11 for next academic year (2021-22). I am therefore no longer taking students who will be in Year 9 or below. I can only accept students living within a 20-mile radius of my home in Central Bedfordshire. My tuition fees remain unchanged, and are inclusive of travelling. As of Easter 2021, I have a short queue of new clients, and will reach capacity very shortly.

I do not normally provide tuition during August, and I am afraid that I do NOT tutor A-level students.

Availability: Weekday evenings from 4:30pm.
With the exception of the major public holidays, teaching can be provided on weekdays throughout most of the academic year, and (with certain limitations) school holidays. However, little or no tutoring is provided during the month of August.
Tutoring is invariably provided in the student`s own home. Terms & Conditions apply.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: 40+ years as teacher of Science (including Head of Department) in 9-13 Middle Schools, 11-16 High Schools and an 11-18 Independent School. Personal tutor with busy practice since September 2010.

Bob has been teaching my daughter GCSE Science for a couple of months now. She is normally a shy person but he has managed to put her at ease. He has indepth knowledge of the curriculum and is able to explain the subject matter with simplicity. She has improved tremendously and is better able to answer questions especially regarding application which she was struggling with previously.
Bob is very consistent, dedicated and always punctual. I will not hesitate to recommend him to parents looking for a Science tutor.

Robert was very helpful and made me far more interested and confident in Biology and Chemistry than I was before. Led to me getting A* grades in both Biology and Chemistry. He is always prepared for each lesson and my exam technique was also greatly improved due to the way he structures his lessons. Thank you Robert

Bob has been an amazing tutor. He quickly understood my son`s needs and provided the individual tutoring he required. Without Bob my son was looking at 2 Ds which would lose him his college place. After an academic year of tutoring, my son has just got two Bs. He is now enrolled in college. We are so grateful to Bob and his patience, humour and skills which not only increased my sons knowledge, but far more importantly, his confidence to answer science questions in the exam. Thank you Bob, you are thoroughly recommended!

We are very pleased with the speed of his response to our request for tutoring. Bob has made a good rapport with our son and has established how he needs to be helped. His approach is child centred and flexible.
