Information about Kavita

For 11 years now, I have been the curriculum leader of Psychology and Health & Social Care at an Academy where Psychology is one of the most popular subjects studied at A-level. This is because my students promote my lessons to the younger students so well. I believe this is because one of my biggest strengths that has been picked up time and time again in lesson observations is my ability to build relationships with students and gain their trust and respect. This, for me, is the key to successful learning. I also use a wide and varied amount of technology in my lessons e.g. video clips, interactive games & questionnaires which I believe helps the students to interact with their learning and make the information relevant and more memorable. I also like the students to take an active role in their learning, so they create role plays, presentations and group work on a regular basis. This has encouraged lots of independent learning and helps to ensure that students are better prepared for University life when it arrives. I constantly strive to be a better teacher and am always looking at ways of improving my teaching resources or methods and keeping up to date with any changes to the exam boards. My exam results are a testament to the hard work and dedication I have to both my students and my subject, both of which I am incredibly passionate about.

Availability: I am currently available anytime during the weekdays, both during term time and the holidays.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I am currently the head of Psychology at a school where Psychology is one of the most popular subjects at A-level. I have also taught in other schools Psychology at a GCSE standard, Health & Social Care, PSHE and Citizenship as all these subjects have strong elements of Psychology within them.

I am also an AQA examiner. I am currently in my fifth year of marking Psychology papers for the exam board, and this has increased my knowledge and confidence is knowing I am marking correctly and knowing what the examiners are looking for from my students

My PGCE in Secondary teaching was specifically designed around teaching Psychology and has proved very useful as other teachers from this course still regularly meet up and find ways of improving our teaching and sharing resources that have been tried and tested on our students and we know work well.

I now also aid the head of sixth form and principal of the Academy in making decisions regarding the sixth form, as well as helping students complete their UCAS applications and personal statements. This is something that I can also help with during tutored lessons as I have many years of experience of helping with this as well as completing training sessions directly from UCAS themselves.
