Mary

I am a qualified chemistry teacher, and teach A-level and GCSE Chemistry - AQA, Edexcel, and OCR A exam boards. I have my PhD and Masters degrees from The University of Manchester. I have the experience of teaching at different Sixth Form Colleges & Secondary Schools, and as such have a full range of notes, worksheets and past papers.

My teaching strategy is to simplify even the hardest topics through imaginary and real life examples when possible! Every student has a different understanding level, it is essential for the tutor to recognise this level and make the correct connection. I use a variety of teaching methods, make sure learning has taken place, assess learners progress, provide and get feedback, motivate and encourage students.

The 3 main aspects of my teaching are:
- Improve chemistry knowledge and understanding
- Focus on exam techniques
- Increase confidence

I tutor 1-2-1, as well as group tuition.
If interested in `Group Tuition`:
I run small group lessons of two students in each group. Students who are at the same level and have the same predicted grades will work together in a group. The relevant/requested topic is taught to both of the students, while emphasising on key points, then they work independently on the planned task. Both students are regularly supported during the lesson and a `Progress Table` is provided to record progress and test results.

One of the advantages of group tuition is that a variety of different questions is raised during the lesson by students, which is beneficial in different ways (eg. increase confidence and/or knowledge, stretch & challenge) for both pupils. There has been absolutely no difference between my 1-2-1 and group tuition results as I choose the students in each group very carefully, making sure they are at the same level and are happily learning in a safe and positive environment.
