Information about Mariam
I am a fully qualified Chemistry teacher with a first class honours chemistry degree and over 20 years teaching experience. I currently teach A level Chemistry at a successful sixth form college and as such have full access to excellent resources. Any sessions covered include full notes on the topic and relevant past paper questions and mark schemes. I have experience in teaching the OCR and AQA syllabus and I am also a lead examiner and moderator for OCR.
First and foremost, I believe that building good working relationships with my students is extremely important, I want my students to enjoy learning Chemistry. I have the ability to change my teaching style according to each student`s individual requirements. Mainstream education doesn’t work for all students, some students need more time to understand, some students require a more visual way to understand concepts, some students have perfect knowledge however struggle with application of knowledge especially at A level and for some students the issues lie with language barriers and not being able to comprehend what the exam questions are asking. Once I have assessed what the issues are with the subject I aim to plan individual lessons to overcome the barrier thus achieving academic success.
My approach to teaching is to simplify abstract and complex concepts, once understanding is established I work on exam questions and guide my students towards obtaining correct answers. I also focus on harder exam questions and the Level of Response questions in A level papers that students tend to struggle on. Regular retrieval is also important and this is incorporated into the lessons to ensure topics are not forgotten. I have excellent resources including notes, past paper questions and visual representations for teaching topics.

Mariam is an excellent teacher. My son has really benefited from her teaching and she has a way of making A/Level chemistry enjoyable for my son. Her experience is evident in her lessons and has a structured approach with exam techniques, which has helped my son to achieve constantly higher grades & an A* in his recent Mock exam. Best chemistry tutor ever! She has an amazing ability to explain difficult concepts in easy ways and always clears any doubts and questions I have. She enabled me to have an excellent understanding of every topic. She has such incredible expertise- giving me tips and techniques that helped me massively in my exams. She is well prepared for every session, able to tailor it specifically for my needs and provides lots of extra resources. Mariam is so friendly and encouraging - helping me become confident and master any weaknesses that I had, leading to huge improvement. I enjoyed and looked forward to every lesson with her.
