Information about Iris
I am 22 years old and I am currently completing my MA degree in Translation studies (Mandarin-English) at the University of Portsmouth. In 2010 I completed my undergraduate degree in Sinology at the University of Leuven, Belgium, which is one of the best universities in Europe to study Mandarin. The course was very intense and I had 13 hours of Mandarin language classes each week. In my third year I obtained a scholarship to study at Sichuan University in China, which gave me the opportunity to live in China and improve my Mandarin language skills up to the point where I can now confidently say that I am fluent in Mandarin.
Even though I am not a native Mandarin speaker, I have been a student myself and therefore know how hard the language is to learn, placing me in a very relevant role to help students grasp the key concepts required.
Because I am a native Dutch speaker I am also willing to tutor people who are looking to start learning Dutch or improve their Dutch language skills.
Availability: Weekdays and weekends
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: When I was a third year Sinology student at my university in Belgium I used to tutor first year Sinology students who had problems with their Mandarin. And during my year abroad in China I was an English teacher at Joy English School (ages 4-12).
