Information about Helen

I am Advisory Practitioner for the Society of Education and Training and a fully qualified teacher with references and DBS check. I have good communication skills, and many years experience working with students of all ages, including those with learning or language difficulties. I specialise in teaching a variety of subjects including: English Language & Literacy, Maths, Music and Art. I use a multi-sensory (visual, auditory and kinesthetic) approach to teaching, which includes specific reading and spelling programmes when appropriate. Lessons are designed to fill any learning gaps, give homework support and provide additional teaching to encourage independent learning. Students will be prepared for relevant exams including Common Entrance, 11 plus, GCSE and AS, A level and Btec.
I also tutor online via Skype, FaceTime, Zoom and Whatsapp.

Availability: Availability varies throughout the year. I have more flexibility during the summer break, otherwise, after school and weekend sessions become available periodically.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have worked as an experienced and qualified tutor for over 15 years. My last 4 lesson observations were graded as outstanding Grade 1 by Ofsted. I teach reading, writing, spelling and speaking/listening skills to those with learning difficulties such as dyslexia and to those whose English is a second language. I prepare students for exams to ensure a higher grade. I also work as Dyslexia Coordinator in a college providing one to one support to those with specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Aspergers & ADHD. I can provide excellent references from colleges, previous students and their parents. I have also worked at the following institutes: Harrow College, Uxbridge College, Barnet College, Hillingdon Adult Education Centre, Kenton Family Learning Centre, Stanmore College, Weald College, West Herts College and for Harrow Borough Council as a Tutor Inspector.

Helen worked with my son to help re-engage him and pass GCSE English. He was a very reluctant student. Helen did an excellent job and he passed his GCSE. She was patient and built up a rapport with him to enable him to do so.

Helen was approachable and it was a shame that the subject was not the same exam board
