Information about Geraldine
Professional classical singer; all-round musician; linguist.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: As a professional musician I have sung principal roles at major opera houses worldwide, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and I have recorded many operas and songs for Hyperion and other labels.
As well as teaching professional classical singers, I also enjoy imparting good technique and the joy of singing to beginners and enthusiasts of all ages, including children.
I teach piano up to intermediate level, and I like to use many strategies to pass on a rounded set of musical skills and a sense of creativity in the learning experience e.g. improvisation, composition, games, movement and singing. I enjoy the challenge of changing my approach for every child; I`ve definitely found out that there is no one "method". I also love teaching adults, especially beginners; I enjoy building their confidence, easing them away from perfectionism, and generally helping them shed any negative baggage they are carrying around music.
I also tutor French up to KS3 level. I lived and studied in France when I was young, and have used my French professionally ever since. I know the grammer very well because I have developed a keen intellectual interest in languages (I also speak Italian and German), and my pronounciation is excellent from years of being coached by native speakers. I`m good at making things seem simple and clear instead of complicated; there are lots of "aha"s in my lessons!
