Information about George

I am a highly experienced teacher and private tutor. I have over 3000 hours of teaching experience, in one-to-one, small groups and classroom settings. I have taught hundreds of students at all levels, including primary, key stage 3, GCSE, A-level and adult learners. I have also prepared students for school entrance and scholarship exams. My teaching has been rated as `outstanding` (the highest rating available) by Ofsted (the UK government`s Office for Standards in Education).

Since graduating from the University of Cambridge in 2012, I have worked exclusively in teaching. As well as working as a private tutor, I have also been a school teacher and I have taught on numerous holiday revision courses, Saturday schools and summer schools.

As a full-time private tutor, I am fully committed to my students. When I am not teaching, I use my time to plan my lessons, to develop resources that are tailored to my students` needs, and to study educational research to ensure that I am always using the most effective teaching methods available.

Through thousands of hours of teaching I have developed a highly effective teaching style. For me, teaching is about much more than just making sure that the student learns the content. Through my lessons, I help my students to develop the skills and qualities that they need to be effective learners in the future.

A big part of what I do is building my students` confidence. I believe that a lack of confidence underlies many issues that students have with learning, and I have found that as my students gain confidence they become more motivated and, most importantly, they start enjoying learning (even subjects that they thought they would always hate).

Another major focus of my lessons is teaching my students how to study. I find that many of my students have never been taught how to learn effectively on their own. By teaching them the best techniques for teaching themselves, I ensure that they are getting the most out of all of their study time, not just the time they spend with me.

With every new student, I always start by getting to know them – what they like and don`t like about the subject, which parts they already understand and which parts they don`t, and what they want to get from the lessons. Then I design a programme of lessons that is suited to them. By starting from the right place for that student, and building their knowledge up from there, I find that all of my students are able to make rapid progress – even those students who have struggled greatly with the subject in the past.

I have extensive experience working with students with complex learning needs, such as dyspraxia, dyslexia, ADHD and autism. With these students, I find that confidence building is often especially important, since they tend to underestimate what they are capable of. Part of this is helping them to develop methods of study which suit them. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any specific needs.

Finally, here are some testimonials from previous clients:

“George is an amazing tutor. Very knowledgeable and has an excellent ability to communicate his knowledge. Would highly recommend him!”

"I cannot recommend George highly enough. He is a first-class communicator and made learning a joy for my son. Extremely knowledgeable in his subject, he has the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. My son always enjoyed lessons with him and came out of each one better informed and with increased confidence in the subject."

Availability: I usually teach on weekdays and I`m happy to do daytime or evening lessons.

Most of my students have lessons 1-2 hours long and usually 1-2 lessons per week. However, I am flexible and very open to doing more than that. I also often do longer sessions with students during school holidays (e.g. a 4 hour session). These are just typical examples though - get in touch with your specific requirements and I will be happy to accommodate them.

I don`t usually work weekends.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have been teaching for over ten years and have thousands of hours of one-to-one tutoring and classroom teaching experience, during which I have taught hundreds of students.

I have taught students from all age groups from primary up to adult learners.

I have prepared students for public exams (GCSE, A-level etc.) and school entrance exams (11+, 13+ etc.), and I have also tutored students who simply wanted to explore maths and science beyond what they were learning at school.

I have tutored students who were finding their subject very difficult, as well as students who were doing well at school but wanted to be pushed further - and everything in between.

I have also taught many students who have specific learning difficulties (dyspraxia, dyslexia, ADHD etc.) and I always adapt my teaching style according to what works best for the individual student.

George is a superb tutor and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. Not only is he fantastic with his subject knowledge, he is also very experienced with a range of SEND and was able to give my daughter advice on how to address problems with study skills caused by her ADHD. As an ex-teacher myself I really appreciate how well George has understood her needs and his ability to adapt to them. My daughter likes him immensely, finding him calm and patient and also very encouraging. Her confidence was at rock bottom when she started sessions with George, and she now feels so much better about herself and her studies. He is also wonderful at communication and organisation, responding very promptly and helpfully sending a reminder of each lesson. He even gave me advice and support on working with my daughter’s Educational Psychologist and her school. If you are looking for a tutor look no further, he really is brilliant!

I highly recommend George, he is an excellent tutor with a passion for teaching that can deliver exceptionally well and tailor to different needs. I have tried a few tutors for my two children and definitely would choose George. My honest opinion is that he is the right person with the right attitude to help the child excel by unlocking the full potential. George is highly organised and has in-depth knowledge of all three triple sciences (Physics, Biology and Chemistry) but also Mathematics. My son is doing the Triple Science and Higher Tier Mathematics for his GCSEs and we are extremely happy with the level of tuition George is able to provide. Additionally, being a young energetic tutor he has the ability to instill his passion in the child and keep them engaged in learning. George is a great role model for any child and he is hard working and a very positive person. What you get from George, is definitely a very good investment for the child`s education and mentoring, and great value for money. Rowena
