Information about Fran
I was born in a small city from Southern Spain called Jaen, it is renowned for its olive oil production. My parents are Josefa and Juan and I am the third of four brothers. I have been living in England since 2009, where I got married and have two daughters. My current interests are cooking, meditation and reading.
My calling for tutoring probably developed in school helping other classmates after lessons. Currently I specialise in Chemistry tuition. I work part-time as a Chemistry teacher in a sixth form college as well as a Chemistry A Level examiner. I completed a PhD in Biochemistry (Distinction) and Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Science Education (Distinction). I started online tuition in 2014 and I thoroughly enjoy it (most of the time!)
Availability: Weekdays and weekends
Willing to travel: 1 miles
Experience: I have been an A Level Chemistry classroom teacher since 2011. My resources and worksheets range from introduction of topics to activities that challenge students to the A* grade. I am aware of typical problem areas where students struggle as well as common misconceptions, and I tackle them in ways that students feel comfortable with.
My experience as an A Level Chemistry examiner enables me to guide students on how to maximise their performance in exams. I work with my students through mark schemes, helping them to interpret them, and revise independently. I emphasise the need for accurate terminology in explanations and clear working out of calculations. Also, I help students understand the structure of standard exam questions as well as approaches to unfamiliar ones.
Please see a summary of my experience below:
A Level examiner (OCR, June 2014 - present)
A Level teacher (OCR, January 2014-present, Edexcel Sept 2011-Dec 2013)
A Level chemistry tutor (all exam boards, 2009-present)
As a private tutor I do take pride in developing my students` independent study skills. I ask students to take an active role in tuition so that they can obtain full benefit from it. I would expect them to come to the lesson with specific questions to be solved, e.g. a past paper question, a paragraph or chapter from a textbook,.. If you wished, I could set you homework prior to the lesson, e.g. reading some pages of a book or notes from website, a worksheet,...so that this will prompt you to ask questions. In the session I will clarify your questions and will expose you to similar ones to ensure you have gained a deep understanding of it.
After each lesson I always send homework and answer sheets to my students. I ask them to send me a picture of their work for me to be able to monitor their progress and spot areas for improvement.
If after the first lesson you are not satisfied you will get the lesson fee back.

Dr Fran Provided an initial lesson to my son, both my son & I were massively impressed by his genuine kindness & ability to covey the lesson . His unique honest approach was refreshing & impressive. What a shame that his teaching skills are reduced to online only !
Excellent chemistry teacher for a levels.
Excellent tutor- I contacted Fran when my son was struggling with his Chemistry A` Level syllabus. Within a very short space of time, my son has improved his grades dramatically, and I have witnessed a huge improvement in his confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. I can highly recommend Fran to anyone who needs that additional support to attain their true potential.
I started tutoring with Fran just over a month ago doing a 2hr session each week. I am currently a c/b student aiming for an a/a* in the new spec. of OCR A Level chemistry. Already I have really improved in the areas I find most difficult including spectroscopy and buffers as we have talked through the topics in great depth and worked though difficult problems. Fran has also been great at providing worksheets, helpsheets and past paper questions for all topics on the specification which has been a fantastic aid for my revision. Overall I would highly recommend Fran as a tutor, especially if you are in a position like me where you are aiming for an a/a*.
Early days but Dr Fran seems a really good tutor. Giving regular homework to my son and my son enjoys his lessons.
