Dean

My name is Dean and I am a freelance opera singer and music tutor. I have been tutoring since 2013 and have tutored in a range of contexts and to all ages.

As a music teacher, I have taught singing (classical, pop, and musical theatre), woodwind, and music theory privately and in schools across Greater Manchester. My teaching practice is informed by research into pedagogical solutions to performance anxiety undertaken for my undergraduate dissertation. This has allowed me to create safe learning environments for my students. I have experience with successfully preparing students for exams and auditions. I also have experience teaching adult learners.

As a performer, I regularly perform as a oratorio and recital soloist and ensemble singer in the UK and continental Europe. I sing regularly in the chorus for Opera Zuid (Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg) and at Theater Aachen (Germany).

I hold a Bachelor of Music degree with Honours from the University of Manchester (where I was principal study clairnet) and a Bachelor of Music in Classical Singing from Conservatorium Maastricht, The Netherlands where I am also studying a Master of Music in Classical Singing and Opera.

My undergraduate dissertation focused on performance anxiety. An important area of my research was how performance anxiety can be prevented and reduces through education.
