Information about Daisy-may

I`m a warm, passionate and highly motivated tutor with over ten years experience teaching Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. I hold a BA in English Literature, Film and Theatre Studies from the University of Manchester, and an ever-growing list of postgraduate certificates from institutions including RADA (Directing), Goldsmiths University (Screenwriting) and LC&CTA (Counselling and Psychotherapy) - reflecting my passion for a range of subjects and my belief in the value of education for education`s sake.

I specialise at working with GCSE and A Level students in the following subjects: English Literature and Language, Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Government and Politics, Sociology and Philosophy.
When it comes to helping my students fulfil their potential in the subjects I teach, it’s not just about what you know but knowing how to express it.

I specialise in helping students to master these skills:

Essay Writing

Devising a thesis
Planning an answer
Structuring an answer
Choosing what to include (and what to leave out)
Understanding and answering the question
Writing to the demands of the mark scheme

Exam Technique:

Revising content strategically
Writing within the given time
Focussing the mind
Dealing with nerves

Creative Writing:

Working with form
Structuring work
Creating character
Creating place
Creating conflict and tension
Mastering subtlety and impact

Whether its mastering essay writing technique or getting to grips with the grittier aspects of an academic theory, I work at a pace that is right for the student I`m with and always go the extra mile to ensure they are left feeling confident and in command of their subject. I aim to create sessions that are engaging, dynamic and in which every second adds value. I take pride and pleasure in the success of my students, and am proud to say they regularly achieve higher than predicated.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: I have worked as a private tutor consistently for over a decade, accruing over 7,800 hours one-to-one and extensive classroom experience.

I also have an unbeatable track record of helping students gain entrance to their first choice of school. These have included (but are not limited to) Eton, Westminster, Alleyn’s, St Paul’s School for Girls, JAGS, and Wycomb Abbey. I understand the challenges posed by the application process and can help students and families with every aspect of the journey, from choosing the right school to preparing for the interview.
