Information about Mandy

I am a highly qualified specialist Chemistry teacher with over 20 years` experience teaching and tutoring within both the State and Independent sector. I have taught at Grammar Schools in Kent and have a proven track record of excellent exam results. I am a Chemistry graduate and have a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as a PGCE from the University of Bath. I love teaching and tutoring Chemistry and my aim is to enthuse and install confidence in my tutees so that every student can achieve their full potential and excellent results. In the past I have helped students to achieve the high grades at GCSE and A level necessary for University courses in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering and Science at Russell Group Universities and Oxbridge. I have been called an inspirational teacher by both my students and colleagues and always aim to make tutoring an enjoyable, confidence boosting experience for all of my pupils and tutees, whatever their age or ability. I am particularly interested in developing strategies with students with SEN and have successfully enjoyed tutoring students with a variety of SEN issues. All my students will tell you that I am always available to give advice and support between sessions.
My recent students include A level students wishing to pursue careers in Veterinary Science, Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy who have achieved A or A* grades in Chemistry and those applying for University courses at Russell Group Universities. I have also tutored IGCSE & GCSE Chemistry/ Science students. Amongst my recent tutees are Year 13 students who have progressed from Grade D or E at AS to either an A*, A or B at A2, enabling them to study subjects including Veterinary Science, Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Biochemistry at their first choice Russell group Universities. I work together with highly qualified and experienced specialist Physics and Biology teachers and tutors if you need additional support with these subjects.

Availability: At the moment I am teaching online lessons via Zoom. I aim to make the online lessons as similar as possible to my face to face lessons and to date I have had very positive feedback from both my students and their parents alike.
I arrange a trial session initially to check that the technology is working for both parties, discuss strategies and explain how the sessions will work.
I am available for tuition after school and during the day on some days, weekends and during school holidays and will always be as flexible as possible with timings for sessions to meet your requirements. Revision courses or sessions to catch up on missed work can be arranged to fit in with school holidays. Please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone or email to discuss your needs further so that we can design an individual tutoring programme to suit you. I live within easy walking distance of all the Grammar Schools in Canterbury. Students also travel from all areas of Kent including Canterbury, Whitstable, Ashford, Rochester, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Faversham. A reduced rate would be available for teaching two students in one session. I work together with other highly qualified and experienced specialist Physics and Biology teachers and tutors should you need to help with these subjects.

As I am currently teaching and tutoring high ability students, I am fully familiar and up to date with the AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications. As an experienced grammar school teacher, I am ideally placed to give excellent, accurate advice on how to achieve the highest grades. I particularly concentrate on practising exam technique and have a wealth of practice questions, papers and exercises.
I offer support and advice for students applying for University courses through UCAS and feel that it is an advantage that I have experienced this process both as an A level subject teacher as well as a parent. I will review and advise on personal statements and I am also able to help students with interview practice for Medicine, Dentistry and Oxbridge. I am happy to provide references and testimonials on request and I look forward to hearing from you.

Mandy is an excellent tutor. I contacted her because I was consistently getting D/C grades, but am aiming to go on and study veterinary medicine, which requires at least an A. She takes great care to explain everything in thorough detail, making even the hardest topics understandable. Where there were gaps in my knowledge, I felt she was quick to notice this, and help me consolidate and understand what I`d missed. Having Mandy to help me with my chemistry has greatly improved both my knowledge and my confidence - I feel much better about the prospect of my exams now. Thank you!! :)

My daughter has had 5 sessions with Mandy(Dr), having picked up Chemistry in Term 2 of Year 12. Her confidence in the subject has grown and the gap between her and her peer has narrowed quickly. We are very happy with Mandy(Dr) as our daughters tutor and more importantly, our daughter is very happy.
