Fairfield High School Sept 1999-2000
Teacher of Resistant Materials
Form Tutor Year 7

Our Lady’s RC High School Sept 2000-2003
Teacher of Resistant Materials
Form Tutor Year 10

Responsible for: GCSE Resistant Materials and key stage 3 Design and Technology, Year 10 form tutor role.
During my time at Our Ladv’s RC High School, I trained as an AQA resistant materials moderator which gave me a unique incite into the detailed requirement for each GCSE grade. As a departmental strategy, I was required to focus on pupils estimated at a grade D/E and develop the skills and knowledge they would need to achieve a grade C or above. This proved to be highly successful and I developed projects that matched pupil’s skills and abilities. As a result I achieved the highest residuals in the Design and Technology department for my two GCSE groups and all the pupils were able to reach their maximum potential.
I was also given the opportunity to integrate new CAD/CAM equipment using techsoft 2D design software which allowed pupils to design and make very accurate high quality products. I was also employed as a senior mid day supervisor and performed lunch time duties every lunchtime.

Rivington and Blackrod High School Sept 2003-2009
Teacher of ICT OCR Nationals
Systems and Control GCSE
Graphics GCSE
Form Tutor

Responsible for: OCR Nationals Course Year 10 and Year 11.
During my time at Rivington and Blackrod High School I was able to further my skills in delivering Systems and Control at GCSE level. I received expert training in the use of Pro Desktop from an accredited trainer. When Pro Desktop was taught to the KS4 students, they were able to produce detailed working drawings using 3rd angle projection, draw exploded diagrams showing how their product should be assembled and produce a wide range of design ideas with detailed annotation. I was also responsible for developing PCB manufacture and designed a range of alarm circuits which the pupils were able to adapt to function within their system ideas.
I also delivered GCSE graphics for two years and gained experience in teaching pupils to use the Roland Cam 1 machine which cut out nets for GCSE packaging projects. This enabled pupils to produce high quality products which greatly improved their GCSE grades.
Due to timetable needs, I was asked to deliver GCSE ICT for two years as I had demonstrated considerable ICT skill in my teaching. I developed schemes of work for KS3 and delivered the OCR National course to years 10 and 11.
This gave me the opportunity to teach: File management, email skills, Power point, Access databases, Web searching, Desktop Publishing and Flash animation. Unit 20 developed skills in Macromedia Flash animation and pupils were taught to produce a high quality 15 second animation promoting safety in the home. Pupils in my two groups achieved 55% passes or above which was a vast improvement on the department average before I joined which was 13%.

5/5 Rating

Mr Russell taught my son Design and technology for his GCSE. He went through a lot of past GCSE papers with my son and taught him the technique to answer the questions in the correct manner. My son achieved an amazing outcome by scoring an A with marks of 158/160 whereas his estimated grade was a C.
Mr Russell was very punctual and my sons above achievement would not have been possible without the his help.
Thank you once again Mr.Russell.
