I am a graduate in English from Oxford University. I attended Durham Chorister School and the RGS in Newcastle on Tyne.
I have been tutoring, coaching and writing full-time since 2009.
My study guides for various English texts are highly rated on Amazon.
I worked in banking sales for 20 years, then owned and ran a children`s indoor play centre from 2002-2009.
I have five adult children of my own, and four granddaughters!
Availability: Flexible daytime, evenings, weekends.
On-line tuition works well with secondary school students.
For the 11 plus, I tutor in person, in the Stratford-on-Avon district.

Experience: I have worked through leading Tutor Agencies for 15 years, with demonstrable success. Most of what I do is through word of mouth and personal recommendation.
I have any number of recent clients you can contact for a reference, whether you are looking for help with 11 plus entrance preparation, GCSE English Language and Literature, or A level English Literature.
For the 11 plus I teach the skills of elimination and approximation and I also address the issue of children`s anxiety. Their mental maths and their overall confidence invariably improves.
My English students learn effective exam technique. I can assess the best outcome they can achieve and focus on that.

A bit late, but we have been working with Gavin for three years and his support and patience have been fantastic. Excellent knowledge of the subject and very good at explaining the logic of how to look at and understand how to answer questions that occur in exams and how to write an essay properly. This is exactly the areas that schools in our experience seem to be weak at explaining

Gavin has been tutoring my daughter for the 11+ and I would highly recommend him. My daughter has responded very well to his teaching style and approach and I can see the difference in her self confidence. Her mental maths and problem solving skills have also improved greatly. I would certainly use Gavin again should we require a tutor.
