Information about Sanjay

Experienced teacher with a PGCE from Cambridge and a First in Classics, I have taught at some of the UK’s most academic schools. Most recently, I have been teaching Latin and Greek full-time at City of London School for Girls and Wellington College, from the Prep Department – where I implemented a new course in liaison with Cambridge University – up to Y13. The majority of my students went on to Oxbridge/Ivy League. I supported these candidates closely, marking work sent in support of their applications and providing wider reading. I have also been a Year 6 Tutor, English teacher, and Head of Debating at a leading London Prep School.

Digital learning is embedded in my classroom. I created a QR code treasure trail, and used an online learning platform to enable students to stream their critical responses in real time, and an autistic student to engage fully with her learning. I worked closely with colleagues in trialling innovative teaching tools such as “Pear Deck”, “Showbie”, “Socrative”, and “iDoceo”. Drama and flipped learning make my lessons interactive, effective, and fun.

I adapt my teaching and resources to meet special educational needs of my students, such as in my second placement where I taught a Y9 boy who is deaf, whilst my mentor noted that I ‘tailored materials particularly well for one of our Year 7 students who is severely visually impaired’.

I consider myself fortunate to have had fantastic teachers at school, who captured my imagination and taught me to think. For me, good teaching is about establishing positive relationships in which a student feels safe, challenged, and empowered to learn.”

“Thank you for having been such a brilliant teacher this past year. Your infectious enthusiasm for all things classical has served as a constant reminder that there is so much more to the classical world than A-Levels and you have inspired in me a real affection for Virgil which I look forward to exploring deeper at university.”
