Information about Sarah

The continuing uncertainty caused by COVID restrictions can easily knock confidence and self belief, particularly with long periods of time spent outside the classroom. However, 1:1 high quality, remote learning is proving that ANYTHING really is possible if you have the right coaching and teaching, that enables you to believe, that you CAN achieve what you thought was inconceivable and turn those C,
D and E grades into top grades.
Watching young people (including my own son) who struggled to achieve C grades in chemistry at school, achieve B, A and A* grades, and go on to persue their dream course is why I continue to work privately.
I have been passionate about teaching young people for over 28 years. There is something uniquely fulfilling in watching the unsure and frustrated develop into confident, aspirational, determined and successful learners.
The current circumstances have provided a unique opportunity for me to offer the flexibility of high quality on-line sessions through zoom and Microsoft TEAM platforms which maximise the use of live visual aids without compromising on the personal contact so crucial to confidence building.
For me the methodology of determining the best learning style for an individual is crucial so I can help students to develop the necessary skill set needed to unlock learning potential and
I am an Assistant Headteacher at a Leamington School with responsibility of the pastoral welfare and academic progress of Y7-Y11 students. However, I have also enjoyed several promotions throughout my career including Head of Chemistry, Assistant Exams officer, Secondary National Strategy Manager, Associate Leader for Teaching and Learning. I currently hold the Strategic Lead for Personalised Learning Conversations across the school - a role that has been crucial in facilitating the school reaching out ‘virtually’ to all students to meet mental health and learning needs quickly and robustly.
I have been awarded a consistently outstanding teaching profile across all year groups, and assist in the development of teaching practices from good to outstanding.

Approach:
I see learning as a two-step process prioritising the development of an understanding of the needs of the learner, both in terms of their learning style and conceptual barriers, as well as their organisational skills and routines. Key to this is the creation of a safe, honest environment built on mutual respect. I encourage students to be open and honest about their commitment to improving, so that I can build in challenge as their confidence grows. Regular student and parent feedback rate me extremely favourably.
I do recommend that student seek additional support early so that the right skill set is developed to ensure that the very highest grades are accessed.
I very much look forward to hearing from you and finding out whether I can help your child realise their true learning potential.

Availability: Week days only during term time.
There is flexibility in the holidays.

Paired sessions can also be arranged where two students wish to be tutored together. There is a reduction of £25 for the second student for this arrangement. The total charge for a paired session is £65.

I offer a free thirty minute consultation lesson to assess the needs of the student, and our mutual compatibility.

Sessions will be need to be conducted at my home where there is an environment that is conducive to maximising focus.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have a BSc Hons in Chemistry from The Victoria University of Manchester, and a PGCE in science and chemistry teaching from The University of Oxford.
I am experienced in developing a range of resources to engage students and stimulate learning.
I teach a range of levels and abilities of students from Y7-Y13. I am accomplished in teaching all three sciences from KS3 to GCSE, as well as A level Chemistry, and this is exemplified by students consistently securing or exceeding challenging target levels/grades.
