Information about Alexandra

I have been a private tutor in Science and Mathematics, specialising in Physics and Maths, for 10 years now. I am currently a final year Ph.D. student in Experimental Particle Physics at the University of Oxford.

I have a passion for Science and Mathematics and try to reflect this enthusiasm in my teaching. I present topics in a way that I think will appeal to the student, and make an effort to relate concepts to examples in the real World, so that students can see the relevance of what they are learning.

My Ph.D. Project is with the LHCb experiment at CERN, Switzerland, where I was based during 2017. Therefore if students have a passion or particular interest in this area of Physics I would especially love to help!

Availability: Preferably evenings on weekdays but flexible on this.

Willing to travel: 50 miles

Experience: I am able to teach up to GCSE Level Chemistry and Biology, and up to A-Level Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. I can also help in preparation for Oxbridge entrance exams, for example the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT), and Common Entrance exams. I have experience teaching all of these subjects at the specified levels.

I began tutoring whilst studying for my AS-Levels in 2009 and have since gone on to have over 25 tutees. I have taught over a range of different levels and I am capable of adjusting my level of teaching to suite the individual.
I tutored a dyslexic student in Mathematics who found it difficult to remember problem solving methods, struggling with the basic concepts at first, but improved from a predicted Grade D to a B. In contrast to this, I have taught grammar school students who achieved A*s in Mathematics and Science, and A-Level students who were awarded almost full marks in their final exams.
