Information about Hannah

To teach well, you must be passionate, dedicated and have a desire to have an impact on children’s lives. These key aspects were first shown to me by my Senior School teacher of English, who has inspired me to want to give my all to facilitate children’s learning. He was passionate about every topic that was on the curriculum and had the fervour to make the class want to stay after to discuss topics further. Observations like these made me realise how influential education is and how much of a difference teachers can make. Considering that the smallest success in teaching can stay with a student forever is a victorious sensation and one that I would be grateful to have. In addition, whilst shadowing a member of parliament during a sixth form placement, I was able to listen to discussions on British Education in the House of Commons that debated the push for more teachers of specific subjects such as English. Therefore, it has been a long wish of mine to teach English to young people and to illustrate my passion for teaching and love for English Literature.

I admire the entire school atmosphere and really enjoyed being a part of it during my experience working in the Senior School at Gads Hill, which was tremendously rewarding – I was a significant role model to students, and by teaching them something new gave me sense of victory knowing that I had broadened their minds. Similarly, when I taught a year 7 class Shakespeare’s “Midsummer”, their inquisitive minds and willingness to learn was magnificent and increased my desire to become an educator. I graduated with a degree in English Literature at CCCU with extra modules in French and ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’. The modules studied have presented me with ways in which I can enhance a student`s knowledge whilst studying English due to lessons where we had to present confidently a lesson plan that the lecturer would follow and give feedback on how well they were. Being well informed in the subject means I am capable of delivering a secure and interesting curriculum. The greatest motivation for me to teach is to support and inspire students to believe that they can flourish. I can help students to develop from a widespread understanding in prose. I would also like to put the ability of `reflection` in place which lets the students review how certain English Literature topics can influence ones learning achievements.

From experience outside of the education system, I have gained skills in communication, time management, and have led and managed a team well in regards to my work as an investigator. I am an ambitious worker and can work independently as well as a team. From placements in schools, to helping students with learning disabilities and observing the teaching skills of the English and French Senior teachers at Gads Hill I have grasped how students learn in variable ways thus and how interesting and thought-provoking lessons can make a difference to a person’s education.
