Information about Jan

Hello! My name is Jan, and I am a fully qualified primary school teacher (QTS) with over 20 years of experience teaching in UK primary schools. I am enthusiastic, friendly and passionate about helping children gain confidence in their learning and make excellent progress through lessons tailored to their individual needs and goals. I continuously assess my students to identify gaps in their learning and use this information to plan engaging and effective lessons.

As a mum of six (all now grown up!), I understand how important it is to find a tutor who can meet your child’s unique needs. Please feel free to get in touch- I’d be happy to chat about your child, answer any questions you may have, and discuss how I can help.

For the past 10 years, I have tutored children with excellent results, particularly in SATs and 11+ exams. I am qualified and happy to teach all areas of the primary curriculum including, phonics, spellings, writing, reading comprehension, maths and science. I have experience teaching children with SEN, including autism and ADHD, and hold a current DBS.

I have taught across all year groups in Surrey primary schools and have over 10 years of experience teaching children with English as an Additional Language. I also hold a TEFL qualification. In addition, I prepare students for the 11+ and 13+ entrance exams.

Currently, I tutor primary-age children in maths, English and science, as well as GCSE English and maths. Lessons are tailored to each student, with English support including word reading, phonics, reading comprehension, spoken language, vocabulary, writing, creative writing, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and maths support covering numeracy, times tables, number facts, reasoning, and problem-solving.
I particularly enjoy helping children prepare for SATs, the year 1 phonics screening test, and school entrance exams.
