Information about Thomas
I am a First Class graduate from the University of Cambridge, having studied for a Masters in Mathematics between 2019 and 2023.
I am able to tutor A Level Maths and Further Maths, and GCSE Maths, as well as the entrance exam for Cambridge Mathematics - STEP, which I of course had to go through. Therefore, I am extremely familiar with the content, technique and style of STEP, and most importantly, I have a good idea of how to perform well in these very difficult exams.
A Level and GCSE:
I am very happy to teach A Level Maths and Further Maths and GCSE Maths, as I am familiar with the new syllabus and new style of exam questions.
The most important thing at GCSE level is to have a solid foundation with the material, in other words, to understand the basics properly, and then advance from there. I always enjoy when my students see a concept in a way they had not seen before, allowing them to understand the maths much better and solve more difficult problems by themselves.
At A Level, it is important to practice the completely new ideas learnt by doing lots of questions - something I can help with and also facilitate by providing lots of questions of varying difficulties and going through the answers in detail.
STEP:
If you are finding STEP difficult and are worried about meeting your 1,1 offer then I would be happy to help you get ready for these exams (STEP 2 and STEP 3) by going through lots of mathematical ideas, questions, explaining exam technique and showing some tips and tricks.
Other entrance exams I can teach:
- MAT
- ENGAA
- NSAA
- TMUA
Availability: I am available on weekdays from 6:45pm onwards - if you would like me as a tutor please purchase my details.
I usually teach online using an online whiteboard and Zoom, but also available in person in London.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I am enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated to ensuring that my students feel more confident when doing maths and have genuinely learnt useful things. I believe that success in maths can be achieved through two key things: understanding the material at an intuitive level and practising as much as possible to implement this understanding.
How can I justify my rates?
- I have tutored for the past five years, so I have much experience in this area.
- I never take on many students at a time: this means my focus is concentrated on just one or two students.
- I set tailored homework which I mark in detail.
- I am always available for advice regarding university applications/exams.
- I have first-hand and recent experience of applying to and being accepted into Cambridge (for those interested in doing the same, be it for Maths or Physics).
Please don`t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! :)
