Information about Devyani
I have experience with teaching KS3-KS5 English Language and English Literature for the past 12 years in four contrasting London schools - as well as, 1-1 and group private tutoring for 12+ years, including 11+
During my masters in English Education, my research centered a great deal around creative writing and the process approach to teaching writing, as well as theorising the imagination and the role of it in English. I have carried out further paid action research in my previous school into lifting the emotional barriers to writing in order to improve confidence and skill in writing.
I am able to tutor in-line with the current changes in the GCSE and A-level curriculum. I was Head of Faculty (English and Media) for six years. At my current school I hold post as the Assistant Headteacher responsible improving whole-school teaching & learning. I have worked as a senior examiner or examiner for 3 major English exam boards. I am familiar with the board standards for these specifications, as well as for Pearson and IGCSE through teaching.
My teaching style at KS3 is predominantly centered around developing the child into a confident and independent learner and thinker - and to develop a love for the subject, as well as encouraging creativity.
However, I do understand that for KS4 and KS5 exams students are required to master a specific set of skills and knowledge to be successful. Therefore, sessions at this level will be pitched accordingly.

My daughter has been using Devyani for not far off a year now and I have seen huge improvements not only in her work but more importantly in her interest and love of English. She is currently in Year 10 and is now approaching her English GCSE with confidence. There is still a long way to go but I am delighted to have found Devyani when we did. She is calm and approaches even the more difficult subjects such as poetry in a way that is easily understood and enjoyed. I would absolutely recommend her to anybody looking. Thank you, Devyani. Fantastic tutor. We contacted Devyani when looking for a last minute English tutor for our son who is doing GCSE and was feeling very nervous. Devyani has been fantastic in reassuring him that he has the capability to do the exam and built his confidence massively over the very few weeks we have been doing the session the change has been remarkably - we cannot thank Devyani enough for supporting our son through this very tricky time.

The relief on my sons face after his first lesson with Devyani said it all! He told me she was excellent- he felt he learnt so much in just one lesson. My son loves to read and writes well- I am glad he has a tutor who can guide him on exam techniques and help him get more confident.
