Information about Mariam

EXPERIENCE AND APPROACH
I am currently the head of faculty at a top performing outer London school. I worked in the private education sector for 5 years prior to gaining Qualified Teacher Status, and have tutored 1:1 lessons for 13 years. Prior to becoming a head of faculty, I was the head of literacy - a role which has enriched the way I approach 1:1 tuition.

Each individual lesson is expertly designed with engagement and progress in mind. It`s incredibly important to me that my students are shown, through great lessons, that English can be a subject that is enjoyable. After all, a high level of engagement always leads to great outcomes! I always consider recent pedagogical findings in my teaching as this takes into account how effective learning occurs. At present, I have run training sessions in Cognitive Load Theory - that is how to improve students` retention and retrieval of knowledge needed to approach exam questions successfully.

EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES
I have developed a range of effective strategies to help students overcome some of the toughest obstacles in English, some of which include:

- planning writing effectively, e.g. analytical essays, creative writing, transactional writing.
- retaining and retrieving knowledge, e.g. quotations, vocabulary, grammar.
- analysing language and structure techniques accurately and effectively for both Literature and Language papers.
- Exam techniques, e.g. knowing how to maximise on marks and meet exam criteria.

COLLABORATIVE PROCESS
I work alongside parents/carers and schools as a collaborative approach to each student`s learning will ensure positive outcomes. I consistently seek feedback from students and parents/carers as meeting the needs of my students is pivotal. I also provide meaningful feedback to parents in the form of marked pieces of work as well as verbal feedback after each lesson.

LESSON RESOURCES
All lesson resources are created carefully and are completely tailored to the student`s needs. These are always emailed in advanced to ensure a smooth lesson. Lesson PowerPoints are emailed to students and parents after the lesson.
