Information about John
I have taught maths in secondary schools for 38 years, so have a wealth of experience in teaching both higher and foundation tiers at GCSE and in preparing students to succeed in maths examinations. In 2017 I trained and worked as an examiner for the new specification of the Edexcel GCSE examination.
Availability: Weekday evenings.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: After qualifying as a secondary maths teacher in 1981, I have worked in several schools in Lancashire and Greater Manchester. I have considerable experience teaching both higher and foundation tier maths classes at key stage 4. Until my retirement I worked in a school where, for the past nine years, my main focus was on preparing year 11 students for GCSE.

I really can`t praise John enough! In preparation for his mathematics GCSE examination, my grandson needed some help to increase his potential grade, though it was recognised that merely working through past exam papers was unlikely to do this. What he needed was a structured approach to understanding and learning the concepts of mathematics which in turn could be tested by random test questions. Very quickly my grandson showed signs of improvement and he discovered a new enthusiasm for the subject as his understanding of it grew. John`s style is calm and unhurried, ensuring his student is absorbing information sufficient to promote independent thinking. Able to draw on his experience as both a teacher and examiner, John delivers the subject in a supportive, balanced and informative way. He is very highly recommended.
