Information about Mary

I am a final year medical student, currently taking a year out to study for a Masters in Immunology of Infection at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I achieved a distinction at medical school, ranking in the top 10%. I am friendly, enthusiastic and passionate about my subjects.

Studying for my A Levels and GCSEs was one of the most exciting and stressful periods of my life. I understand the immense pressure placed upon you to achieve the best grades you possibly can. Due to this I am committed to helping you to understand your subjects and revise in a way we can both enjoy!

As a current student I understand how dull learning can be. I also know how easy it is to slip into one method of learning that prevents you reaching your maximum potential. Medical students are renowned for their ability to use anything, from rhymes and dances to mind maps to remember the masses of information presented to us. I have taken this approach to tutoring and use a wide variety of tools.

My approach is to firstly provide a past paper or set of questions to assess your current ability. From there we work on improving your weaknesses or areas you perhaps missed in the classroom. This will be done via discussions, diagrams, questioning and silly mnemonics, amongst many other techniques and will be personalised to your preferred learning styles. I will provide a set of questions each week for you to complete after the session, so that we can assess your progress.

Experience: I have a vast range of experience, from teaching primary school aged children to providing revision lectures to medical students.

At medical school I was a tutor for the Medical Education Society, providing teaching to students in younger years. This involved giving lectures and workshops, especially about topics students found particularly difficult.

As head of my school`s mentoring programme I have much experience tutoring students of secondary school age. I am also a certified TextNow reading coach.

Working as a trainer for the Duke Of Edinburgh award I received a course in methods of education. My students consistently achieved the highest marks in the assessment and my teaching practises were highly commended.

I was a Brownie leader for four years and have also worked as an au pair, so have a wealth of experience working with primary school aged children. Working with the Brownies has taught me creative methods of education for younger children.
