Information about Camilla
Hola, My name is Camilla and I have over a decade of experience in personalised Spanish tuition for individuals and also of teaching Spanish to groups. I worked for the Spanish government in Madrid for seven years so I have taught mostly business Spanish to adults but I enjoy teaching every level from children and absolute beginners up. Whatever their level, it is wonderful to watch students discover the liveliness and expressiveness of the Spanish language and gain proficiency as their confidence and enjoyment grows. I learned Spanish as an adult so the things that confuse native English speakers are still fresh in my mind. I figured out my own ways of explaining things that don`t come naturally to us - like the use of the subjunctive - and students I`ve shared those insights with have said they definitely help.
Availability: At present I am very flexible but would prefer weekday evenings or afternoons.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have tutored Spanish for over ten years to over 20 repeat students. Some, whom I had been visiting for a couple of years before the pandemic, agreed to take their classes online during Covid and later told me that their weekly hour of Spanish was the highlight of a working week of Teams meetings.
I went to work in Spain as an adult and learned from scratch. Understanding Spanish on the phone was the hardest challenge I had to overcome. Especially telephone numbers. I have developed techniques for listening and transcribing that I share with my students.
My own children were all born in Spain so I watched them learn the Spanish phonetic system and lived through all their homework in Spanish. I use this first hand knowledge to help children get to grips with pronunciation and comprehension.
I worked first for the Madrid Regional Government and later for the Spanish Ministry of Economy in roles that covered pretty much every business sector so my experience would be very relevant for adults needing help with business Spanish: writing reports, preparing presentations or just gaining enough conversation for greeting and eating.

I was so lucky to be connected up with Camilla! She is a very experienced tutor: extremely competent linguistically, and also very warm, humorous and personally engaging. With English as her first language, Camilla approaches her teaching completely on the British learner`s wavelength, imparting exactly those learning points that I need to hoist in while grappling with Spanish grammar and structure. Every lesson is tailored to what I need, and follow-up sessions and homework really help to reinforce every new step accomplished. It`s also fun! Camilla`s grasp of Spanish idiom and cultural tone is very impressive, and she puts such things across with delightful expressiveness. I could not have wished for a more enjoyable and productive result from TutorHunt.
