I offer English literature and language tuition for all levels. I have recently completed my PhD in English literature and am working overseas. As a result, I am currently only taking online students.

I work with all age groups and abilities. Although, of course, I ensure my pupils have the capacity to pass exams, I am a skills based tutor. I prefer to ensure that a pupil has the necessary analytical skills to pass the exams and, to that end, I encourage them to work out literary interpretations themselves instead of learning my interpretations by rote! However, I am also available for emergency pre-exam and pre-essay sessions!

Availability: Most evenings and weekends.

Experience: I was employed as a tutor for Deeside tuition between 2010 and 2012 where I tutored pupils from eight years old to 18. I also worked with students through my business, Upon my Word, from 2010 to the present, providing lessons for both the English and Scottish systems. All my exam pupils either achieved or surpassed their examination goals.

At university level, I have lectured and tutored at foundation level as well as leading tutorials as part of the following courses:
"Tragedy of Knowledge" - second year course covering literature across the ages.
"Controversial Classics" - first year course looking at controversial literature from the twentieth century.
"Encounters with Shakespeare" - second year course covering Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
"Reading Writing" - first year general literature course.

I have also led a number of public lectures and discussions on the following themes: "What is the point of censorship?" "Should be worried about what our young people are reading?" and "The emergence of the novel."

As part of the evening classes and to aid some tutees, I have provided lessons via telephone and skype.

I am also a qualified professional storyteller and have led storytelling/literacy sessions and workshops in schools.

I also spent 6 months teaching English to non-native speakers in India.
