Information about Jane
I currently teach in a primary school in Hampstead. I am part of the schools inclusion team as well as teaching a year 4 class once a week. I have been teaching for over 18 years.
I work with all KS2 children, including those who are working below the national average for their year group or have a specific educational need.
My approach to teaching is to start with each individual child, establish their needs and how they learn best. I build on confidence and self-esteem as these have a huge impact on learning. I encourage independence and use a wide range of teaching strategies and methods.
I tutor from my home in North Finchley.
I have an up to date DBS.
Availability: I am available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I teach all areas of Literacy, including:
handwriting (inc. letter position, joining, letter formation, pen grip)
spelling (multi sensory approach: reading, using, sounding out, pictorial)
comprehension (reading, answering literal, inferential and evaluative questions, defining unknown words, listening)
punctuation (commas, apostrophes, question and exclamation marks, full stops, capital letters, speech marks)
I work with children who have specific special needs, for example dyslexia.
I am familiar with year 6 SATs, and I work with children to ensure a smooth transition to secondary school.
I work closely with professionals involved with each child e.g. educational psychologists, occupational therapists etc. to ensure a coordinated approach.
During the first session, I use activities which allow me to assess which areas the child needs support with. If appropriate, I may also complete a reading age and spelling age assessment with them.
I like to set targets with the child which are achievable and specific. This can be done through completing a passport which gives children the opportunity to identify their own strengths and weaknesses and establish help they need as well as how they can help themselves.
I often use reward systems (such as sticker charts) when steps have been made, however small or large. This ensures each lesson provides success for the child.
