Information about Fang Chun

Hello everyone:

My name is Fang [contact detail removed] (Serinna), and I am delighted that you came to view my profile.

I am Taiwanese and Mandarin is my mother tongue. I have been stayed in the UK for over 15 years. I left Taiwan in 2002 and studied for a Masters degree in International Hospitality Management at Sheffield Hallam University, in the United Kingdom. I became a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland in 2015. I also have completed a Chinese language-training programme at SOAS, University of London, and obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma (Level 7) in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

During my studies, I was introduced to various recognised methodologies for teaching Chinese, primarily the Communicative Learning Approach, Task-Based Language Teaching and some of. In addition to the aforementioned methodologies, I have also been introduced to more traditional teaching practices such as the use of Audio-gual methods. As a native Chinese speaker, I am in the unique position to be able to improve my students’ intonation and pronunciation, a particular weakness that I have found with a lot of native English speakers who are learning Chinese.

I have a deep understanding of what is required to be a successful Chinese language teacher. I understand the importance of designing a teaching plan that will motivate and appeal to my target audience. I have become adept at designing activities to give my students practice in language by employing as wide a range of teaching materials as possible. I have found that the diversity of materials enhances the students learning journey and the results are noticeable. In addition to Chinese language teaching, sometimes I also teach Chinese culture and western cultural difference. Language teaching also needs to cover culture, so students can easily understand the meaning of many words and sentences.

As a Taiwanese national, I am very proud that I have learned phonetic symbols and traditional Chinese characters since my childhood. Although the current world trend is to learn simplified Chinese, in my current teaching career (private teaching), I can teach either traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese.

I am a highly motivated and driven person and I have the energy and enthusiasm to tackle challenges;;;; my return to study is a testament to my determination to succeed as a teacher.
