I am a PhD Chemist with over 20 years experience of 1:1 tuition in A-Level Chemistry supporting the success of very many A-level Chemistry students.

I am particularly familiar with the current AQA and OCR specifications for A-level Chemistry.

My approach is to initially assess the student with respect to preferred learning style and ability, review past performance looking for aspects (both in subject matter and technique), that need support. After discussing these aspects, I will set work for the student to complete and then review that work 1:1 with the student at the next session.

Together we will follow each Chemistry topic the student is studying at college with discussion around each topic using additional material from the large database I have collected over the years. We will prepare for the more challenging topics before they are taught at college and where necessary strengthen AS aspects of A2 topics to ensure that the student gets the most out of college teaching.

Over the course of the tuition I set the student progress tests and as we move towards the exams use my database of mock exam papers. We will then critically review the students answers against the official mark schemes looking at both the quality of those answers and general exam technique.

Lack of confidence is an issue with many students. My approach is to listen to the students concerns and address them. Confidence is improved by a solid understanding of subject matter.
