Information about Mark

I am currently teaching the MECHGF01 and MECHGI01 Masters modules on medical device prototyping at University College London, where I am working towards a doctorate in computational geometry and medical engineering. Prior to this I have been a private tutor for over 10 years in London and my hometown in Kent. My students have often stayed with me for many years, with some being coached by me throughout their GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate careers.

I put my success as a tutor down to both a great deal of experience and qualification across a range of subjects, plus my having a deeply enthusiastic, empathetic and reliable character that ensures each of my students goes into their exam with a profound understanding of their material and leaves with the inspiration to pursue their studies further. My personable style has found me speaking in numerous public science events, and recently I was featured as an expert materials scientist in an episode of BBC Radio World Service`s Science In Action.

Availability: As a theoretical researcher my schedule is fairly flexible other than a few permanent fixtures each week. I am happy to fix a regular time-slot and can be accommodating here, and am also responsive to emails and phone calls throughout the day and evening.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I am currently tutoring Masters students in medical device prototyping at University College London. Last year I taught the same course but with a focus on the Internet of Things. Prior to that I taught a Matlab and numerical methods course to mathematics undergraduates at the University of Surrey, and throughout all this I have been a freelance tutor in mathematics (GCSE A-level and year 1 of undergraduate), guitar (grades 1-8), piano (grades 1-6), physics (A-level) and economics (1st year university). I have a lengthy track record of public speaking and science communication, including an expert consultant for the European Commission.
