Information about Isabelle
Throughout my years as a student, I have always been extremely passionate about and committed to education and learning, believing that this is one of the most important fundamental rights we possess. I am also very aware that I owe this appreciation largely to the excellent teaching which I have received, and, being grateful of this, I now hope to inspire the same enthusiasm and interest in other students. Not only would I love to share with them the value, importance and fulfilment of learning, but I also wish to help young people find enjoyment, passion and confidence in their own unique strengths. Helping students find the things they are good at, interested in, or care about- the many different little things and skills that make them an individual- is an extremely important part of personal development, as well as a highly rewarding aspect of teaching. Knowledge is power, and I see it as imperative that the next generation is not only empowered in this way, but also supported in their personal development in order to reach their full potential and become the people they want to be. Now that I have graduated, it is therefore both a concern for education and for welfare which has led me to teaching and tutoring, in the hope that I can seize every opportunity possible to instil this passion for learning and drive for success in others.
Availability: As a teacher, I am not available during school hours, but can be available weekday evenings and most weekends.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Currently I work in a secondary school in North Dorset, as a cover teacher, and soon to be unqualified History teacher. At this school, I have also previously worked as an unqualified English teacher, which was extremely valuable and rewarding. From it, I have learnt a lot about the fundamentals of teaching, planning, and assessing.
I am also TEFL certified, and last year, I worked teaching English as a foreign language to 16-18 year olds in Thailand.
Since university, I have tutored many students, ranging from as young as 7 and 11, to 18 year olds studying for their A-Levels. My expertise lies in GCSE and A-Level History and English.
Other experience teaching young adults includes working on Oxford University`s UNIQ summer school, on their History: Race and Protest course. This required me to teach some of the brightest A-level students from state schools across the country, leading discussion groups of 10 students on topics surrounding race and the global civil rights movement.
However, I have also gained experience in teaching at primary schools. Whilst at university, I volunteered weekly with a student-led charity, Schools Plus. This involved working with a class of Year 5s, teaching creative writing to groups of 8 students, and teaching reading with students one-on-one.
