Information about Sammy

Currently, I am studying for a PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan Univeristy after completing my Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies there as well. I am a friendly and flexible person who is happy to offer my tutoring services in any way that is helpful for someone looking for support. I am confident and good at communicating, whilst being able to maintain both a professional and casual manner when suitable. This is why I believe I am suited to providing my tutoring services as I can alter my approach to suit the student I am teaching. I will be willing to provide tutoring services to any student from Primary age right through to University level.

Availability: I am available to tutor any time from 2pm onwards Monday to Friday. This is due to part-time work commitments and my PhD studies.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have experience of teaching and tutoring in a variety of professional and personal contexts.

In my personal life, I have supported my nieces and nephews with a variety of small elements of learning. For example, I have helped to reinforce alphabet and numbers learning with my younger family members in Reception and Year One. I also helped one of my nieces to learn how to use the dictionary at roughly age 8.

I have also had a number of work experiences and placements in schooling institutions during my university studies. I have completed a one week placement at Albany Primary School located on Albany Road at the heart of Roath, Cardiff. This saw me take on the role of a Teaching Assistant supporting learning with Numeracy and Literacy. I also conducted a series of Reading sessions during the week, as one-to-one support with the pupils. This was one of the first times I saw firsthand the impact that one-to-one tutoring can have in improving a student`s learning.

In relation to Secondary School learning, I have conducted many placements, some of which have seen me take on the role of teacher in the subject of Drama. This stretched from Year Seven level all the way through to A-Level lessons. I also provided rehearsal sessions where I could work closely with GCSE and A-Level learners with their assessed performances. This lasted roughly 2 months and was at Hawthorn High School located just outside of Cardiff. This makes Drama one of my specialistic subjects, alongside both Maths and English at Primary, Secondary and GCSE levels.

Due to my own studies at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and now PhD level, I am also capable of providing tutor to university students. This would be based around either specific subject areas of Drama and Education Studies or around the key elements of academic writing. I have excelled at academic writing in the forms of essays, dissertations, presentations and blog posts throughout my 5 years of studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University. This is evidenced through my award of First-Class Honours in my BA (Hons) Educational Studies and Drama and Merit in my MA Education courses.
