Former Leading Mathematics Teacher who has taught students, aged 11 to 18, in both Independent and Government funded schools in the UK.

I have also worked with gifted 10-11 year olds and lower ability 9-11 year olds, offering regular hourly workshops within a school environment.

During my teaching career I was Head of GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy and was also responsible for ensuring students with Special Educational Needs were fully able to access the school’s syllabus. I have extensive A level teaching and tutoring experience.

In my role as a Leading Mathematics Teacher, I worked within a small team which was responsible for introducing excellence and innovation to Maths teaching within my county. As a part of this role my classroom was always open to teachers from other schools who could come to view any of my lessons; this ensured that I maintained a high level of demonstrable learning as a mainstay to my teaching practice and made me focus on how my students learn and the best way to improve individual performance.

I have consistently been able to raise student’s grades by two or more levels and am happy to work with students of any ability who wish to improve their performance in Maths. To improve performance I focus upon understanding, application, effective revision and exam technique.

I have been tutoring since 2002 and have worked successfully with students from age 5 up to 21 years in this capacity; I have prepared students for 11+. 13+, GCSE, Additional Maths, Further Maths, IB and A level Maths as well as working with University Engineering Students.

I am calm, patient and adaptable in my approach to tutoring and recognize that telling or repeating information does not unlock the door to understanding Mathematics. Success in Mathematics is dependent upon understanding key concepts and being able to apply them to unfamiliar situations.

One of my greatest strengths is finding the right ways to explain concepts to individual students (one size does not fit all); I have a wide range of resources that I use to support my lessons and I also have a sense of humour!

Experience: In my last school I was Second in Department, Head of GCSE, KS3 development and Numeracy. I have successfully taught in both the state and independent sectors.

As a school teacher I have taught Mathematics from year 6 up to year 13.

As a tutor I have prepared students for 11+, 13+, GCSE, A level, IB and University Engineering examinations. I have also worked with students in KS1 and KS2 where additional support or challenge was required.

I have experience with Edexcel, AQA, OCR, MEI and IB examination boards.

Before I moved to Lancashire I was selected as a "Leading Mathematics Teacher" in Hertfordshire and working in a small team providing innovation and improvement to the teaching of Mathematics.

Teaching is my second career, in which I have 20 years experience. I was previously in business.
