Information about Adam

Inspired by Shakespeare`s words from Hamlet, "The play`s the thing", I believe strongly that a playful, fast-paced, yet systematic approach is the best way to help my students succeed.

I have worked as a head of department at an academically selective independent day school in south-west London, focusing on prep school classes at 11+ and 13+ level, but also teaching up to A level. I also have experience as a course director, devising and teaching academic enrichment courses for Somerset County Council`s renowned gifted and talented programme.

My specialism is helping students to prepare for 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations for entry to selective schools. I am also able to provide mock interviews. Previous students are now at Hampton, LEH, KCS Wimbledon, Eton, Surbiton High School, Bedales, Reeds, Lord Wandsworth College, St John’s Leatherhead and more.

Availability: I am available after school.
I am available for online tuition 7 days a week.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: Teacher and head of department at a London independent day school. My teaching spans preparatory and senior classes, right up to A level. I have personal insight into independent schools` academic standards at 11+ and 13+ entry points, having been a head of year.

Course Director for Somerset County Council`s renowned gifted and talented programme, devising and teaching intensive academic enrichment courses in English, history and public speaking for pupils aged 9-14.

Parents, pupils and a recent Ofsted inspection have all praised my teaching for explaining complicated material in a memorable way without compromising on academic rigour.

As well as young students, I enjoy teaching adults: I have lectured on study days and summer schools at Dillington, one of the top adult education colleges in the country.

Prior to embarking on a career in teaching, I was a marketing director and, before that, worked in advertising and market research. These roles required precision in the use of language, extensive cultural knowledge, and finely-honed skills of analysis and evaluation.
