Information about Lucy

I am a qualified science teacher (QTS - Qualified Teacher Status) with 10 years’ experience working in secondary schools. I have been employed in my current OFSTED rated “good” school for the past 8 years. I graduated from Sheffield with a 1st class BSc degree. I worked in the pharmaceutical industry, in both metabolic chemistry and bioanalysis departments before deciding to go back to university to do a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in chemistry to start my teaching journey and haven’t looked back since. I have helped many young people in achieving success with their science examinations over the years that I have been employed as a secondary school science teacher.

My specialism is chemistry, but I teach all 3 sciences including biology and physics at KS3 and GCSE level. I teach AQA triple sciences in my school, but I am familiar with other examination boards as it tends to be similar content but just in a different order. I will help you with any science content and exam board to meet your requirements.

I am passionate about my subject and I will project my enthusiasm for science during the session. I am very friendly, down to earth and relatable. I enjoy my career as a science teacher, and I enjoy working with young people and believe I really have the skills to get you prepared for your examinations. Tutoring will really give that extra one-on-one time to focus on your own learning, which is not always possible in a busy classroom environment with 30 students. I believe the best way to achieve success in examinations is to first revisit content, then use past examination papers and review answers against the mark scheme to really “fine tune” answers to ensure that no silly marks are lost. This is what I will aim to do in sessions, and over time you will grasp what examination questions are asking you, be able to construct answers to hit what the mark schemes requires, and not get fooled by the questions as many students do.

Availability: I am available after school in the evenings Monday-Thursday. Message me to discuss a time and day to suit you. I can offer both face to face and online lessons.
