Information about Clare
I am a professional composer, trumpet player and freelance music teacher based in London. I teach a range of musical disciplines, including:
Academic Music (Primary to Degree Level)
I have a first-class BMus degree in Music from Royal Holloway University of London and a Masters in composition from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where I graduated with a Distinction. I also attended the Purcell School for Young Musicians during A Levels and achieved A*AA (Music, Maths, Physics).
I am passionate about music education, particularly in providing an opportunity for students to compose, create music and find their own unique artistic voice. My aim in teaching is to equip students with the musical tools and techniques in order to help them perform, compose and make music effectively and creatively in their own individual way, where the skills learnt can build confidence and inform other aspects of their lives. I have a flexible, patient and interactive approach to teaching tailored to the individual needs of the student, where I am happy to teach those who would like to learn for pleasure as well as for graded exams and formal study.
As a composer, I have recently completed a Composition Fellowship at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. My music has been heard on BBC Radio 3 and performed by ensembles such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, EXAUDI vocal ensemble, Plus-Minus Ensemble, and Psappha Ensemble, and performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank Centre), The Place, and Milton Court Concert Hall. I also love collaboration, where I have worked with writers, visual artists and choreographers on numerous projects, including a collaboration with a writer on a commission from the Barbican to compose a site-specific opera, performed in May 2019 as part of the Sound Unbound Festival.
Availability: Available weekdays, weekends, evenings and school holidays. My schedule is generally flexible, so please enquire if you are interested in lessons.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have experience teaching in a wide variety of circumstances throughout my career so far, from group musicianship/music theory lessons, workshop leading and whole class teaching, to one to one composition and music lessons. I am happy to teach student(s) of any age and ability, from children to adult learners.

Feedback For Clare (10)
Clare is a very well-organized teacher. She understand my girl`s situation and needs well and help us prepare for the ABRSM exam.
My daughter required some extra help particular with Music Theory for her A Level music. Clare has been extremely helpful and ensured that she knows all the specifications of the pieces that my daughter is covering at A level. Already after just a few weeks she is feeling more confident.
I thought Clare was very pleasant and helpful. She is clearly very knowledgeable about the Sibelius notation software and music in general.
Really friendly and helpful tutor. Always checks up on progress with me so that my lessons are directed to the most important aspects. Extremely good range of knowledge, and great, reliable response time.
Clare has worked really well with both my daughters, helping them to improve their composition skills. Her lessons are musically enriching and the girls enjoy them.
Claire is a very good, clear and patient teacher. I am learning a music software programme and I`m getting the hang of it very quickly thanks to Claire`s teaching. Neil McArthur
I find Clare to be very likeable, easy going, and open to any style or musical direction that you would wish the lessons to take. In my experience she has offered me all-round good general advice with my composing, touching on specific subjects that I asked for, without the need for weighty detail.
Great lessons with Clare! Very knowledgable and personable, very much enjoying learning with her.
I am so grateful to Clare for the music lessons that she gives to my daughter on a weekly basis. My daughter has had such issues with her GCSE music to the extent that she was missing school on music lesson days. Thankfully with lockdown we explored zoom tutoring and found Claire. Clare is always well prepared, professional and quickly established a very good relationship with my daughter to the extent which my daughter has asked for the lessons to continue over the holidays. I would highly recommend Clare to anyone needing a music tutor. THANK YOU CLARE
Clare has been brilliant. She really knows her stuff, is flexible and accommodating and has already been incredibly helpful to my daughter. She`s tutoring A level music for us but has also been amazing at stepping in to help with the aural tests required for instrument exams. We highly recommend her!
