Hi, I’m Lisa. I’m a friendly, enthusiastic and experienced qualified primary teacher and ESOL teacher, with many years` experience working with children across the primary age range.

After completing my degree in Psychology, I trained as a teacher at the Institute of Education, University of London, gaining my PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status in 2003. I specialised in Early Years and Key Stage 1 and have particular expertise in these age groups, including experience as an Early Years Phase Leader. I have also taught across the full primary age range, from Nursery through to Year 6, both in the UK and overseas.

My approach to tutoring is warm, encouraging and child-centred. I recognise that every child learns differently, so I tailor sessions to their individual needs, confidence and learning style rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

I aim to make learning enjoyable and achievable. My sessions are friendly, focused and engaging, using a mixture of activities, games, discussion and practical strategies to keep children interested and actively involved. I am particularly keen to build children`s confidence alongside their academic skills, helping them recognise what they can do and giving them the tools to tackle areas they find more challenging.

My broad teaching experience means I can identify gaps in understanding, adapt explanations when something isn`t clicking, and provide appropriate support and challenge to help children make progress. I can support children with English, maths and wider primary learning, whether they need help catching up, consolidating schoolwork, building confidence or extending their learning.

I hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate and am registered with the DBS Update Service.

Availability: During school term, I am available Monday to Thursday after school from 4.30pm. I have flexibility throughout the school holidays, ideally between 9am and 6pm Monday to Thursday.

Experience: Over the past 20 years, I have worked in a wide variety of educational settings in both the UK and overseas. My roles have included EYFS, KS1 and KS2 tutor; Nursery, Reception and Year 1 class teacher; Early Years Phase Leader; and supply teacher, teaching across the full primary age range from Nursery to Year 6. I have also taught ESOL to both children and adults.

I have supported children preparing for 4+ and 7+ entrance assessments, as well as providing individual tutoring to help children strengthen their English and maths skills, close gaps in learning and develop greater confidence.

Throughout my teaching career, I have worked with children from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, including many children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autism (ASD). I adapt my teaching to the individual child, finding approaches that help them feel comfortable, engaged and able to succeed.
