Information about Jo
I have a PhD in Psychology (Psychotherapeutic theories of human development) awarded in 1998 and a PG Dip Ed in E-learning awarded in 2005. I am an online education specialist with over twenty years of experience teaching psychology. I currently run a writing coaching service specifically for students struggling with dissertations and theses. Since 2015, I`ve also worked as a freelance academic editor of social science ESL research papers aiming for peer-reviewed publication in the international research literature. I`m therefore well equipped to support undergraduate, postgraduate and adult learners achieve their learning objectives, especially written assessments. I live on the Fife coast but am from London originally. I`ve travelled the world while teaching and editing for the past 13 years. I`m happy to teach online or travel.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I began my teaching career at Birkbeck College, the University of London in 1993 where I taught psychology to adult learners pursuing access to higher education. I began teaching for the University of Sheffield in 1998 and was appointed a full-time lecturer in mental health from 2001 to 2011. During that time I also trained in mindfulness-based interventions which I used to help my undergraduate and graduate research students overcome obstacles to writing their theses and dissertations. From 2011 to 2014 I worked as a senior lecturer at SIBA in Sri Lanka teaching mindfulness-based interventions to counselling psychology students, while also supervising graduate research online for the University of Sheffield. I then took on a role as an Associate Editor for Springerlink publications, and eventually became a full-time freelance academic editor for a variety of clients (mostly ESL academic researchers) from 2015. I now run my own writing coaching business that specialises in ensuring undergraduate and graduate students, PhD candidates, and ESL researchers complete their writing projects and optimise their productivity.
