Information about Catherine
An experienced Primary School Teacher, I have been tutoring since 2017, currently online. I taught for over 25 years in Primary Schools, mainly working with children with additional support needs but also as a mainstream teacher. I have also supported adults to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.
I am successful in motivating learners to reach their potential, by making activities relevant and enjoyable, whilst planning lessons that are tailor made to meet individual needs. My aim is to provide a positive and supportive environment, where the learner can feel confident to tackle agreed goals and to achieve success. What really motivates me is helping to improve someone`s self-esteem by supporting them to change "I can`t" into "I can".
I can tutor all subjects at Primary level, particularly basic literacy and numeracy skills. I can also support the acquisition of English as a Foreign Language.
Availability: I have times available either within the daytime or the evening, Mondays -Fridays.
I can either travel to your home for the tutoring session or lessons can take place online via Zoom. With Zoom lessons we are able to share files, PowerPoints and whiteboards throughout the lesson and this has proved to be a successful platform for lessons.
Please note that if I travel to your home for the session, I charge a mileage fee of 45p/mile on top of the session fee of £35.

Experience: I have a Bachelor of Education (Honours) for Primary Education, a Diploma in Special Educational Needs and a Level 5 TEFL Cambridge Certificate. I taught for 25 years in England, Wales, Scotland and the US, in the mainstream and additional learning needs sectors. I have worked with children with moderate learning difficulties and those with a range of complex needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, behavioural difficulties and communication disorders. As a Prison Instructor and voluntary tutor with Adult Learning, I have also supported adults with learning difficulties. I have a proven track record of getting learners, with a range of learning difficulties or with none, to achieve success and a love of learning across the curriculum. I particularly enjoy the teaching of literacy and numeracy.

We have had Cath for over a year now. My son is autistic and she has great strategies to keep him engaged, with a firm but fair approach. There is often a lot of laughter as well, but I know he is being pushed to achieve better. We originally had Cath come round to the house for sessions but due to Covid, the lessons were moved online. Apart from a few technology failures at our end, it has been a seamless switch and I doubt we will go back to face to face. I cannot recommend Catherine enough, and Jack has definitely come on so well since he started the extra tuition with her.

Catherine is simply amazing with my son. I would definitely recommend her, she is very detailed with her teaching and she takes her time to explain how my boy is doing. She is an amazing teacher/tutor. Thanks Catherine.
