Information about Peter

I graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London, with a First-Class Honours Degree in Chemistry. Since then I have had a number of roles in industry, initially in R&D and Technical Services and most recently in Product Management and Marketing. Throughout my working career I have trained and supported countless customers, and have also supported those around me in developing their professional careers. As part of my professional career I became a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM) through sitting the CIM examinations and through working as a Senior Marketing Manager for many years.

I recently worked part-time with a science outreach company, where we were passionate in bringing science to life for children aged 5-11 years, through hands-on science activities delivered through science parties and holiday science camps.

I started tutoring in April 2019 and am currently helping many students across GCSE and A level studies.

As a person I am positive, supportive, enthusiastic and highly motivated.

Outside of work I volunteer for the National Trust, where I love sharing the stories of a wonderful Georgian mansion with the visitors. I tour National Trust sites with my wife in our old campervan called Mel. I also have a passion for music and love playing the guitar.

Availability: To check for my latest availability it is best to message me. I usually have slots available and can also look at my overall timetable to look to see if slots can be jiggled about to meet with a client`s needs. In general I plan my sessions as follows:

- Daytimes: 9:00am - 3:30pm: students who are available during the daytime, such as those who are home-schooled or those who are studying A-level chemistry who have free periods during the daytime.
- Evening slots: 4:00pm - 9:00pm: students within KS4 and KS5.

Experience: Successful tutoring is all about understanding the specific needs and requirements of each individual student. As individuals we need support that is tailored to our needs in order to maximise our success.

I understand that individuals have different approaches to learning and that they come with a portfolio of personal skills and traits. I also understand that confidence and positivity are key to achieving success. So, whilst the academic aspects are important, I balance this with supporting the personal development of each individual. Typical areas that I address with personal development include confidence, ‘learning how to learn’, problem solving techniques, excellence versus perfectionism and exam techniques.

For me learning has to be fun and it has to be relevant. It needs to bring challenges and it needs to bring successes.

I work hard to support all of my students and proactively encourage them to use me as their aide and mentor. I reach out to all of my students to instil confidence, and through positive encouragement I motivate and empowerment them to achieve excellence.

I have a broad base of experience in working with students with learning difficulties including ADHD, Asperger, Autism, Dyscalculia, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. Key to working with such students is the importance of developing tailored learning strategies, approaches and resources that best help these students develop.

Peter has been a great tutor for my daughter. His weekly sessions have engaged her and have moved her mindset from feeling completely out of her depth at the end of year 12 to feeling confident that she understands the subject and is capable when taking her exams this year. Peter is clearly very passionate about helping students to achieve their potential in chemistry and his resources are very thorough. Highly recommend!

Peter is an excellent tutor and fully deserves 5 stars. He excels not only through his great expertise in the subject but also his passion for it and his very strong pedagogy. My son came to him as a reluctant teenager with no affinity with the subject, regretting having taken it as an A-level. He left a competent student with an interest in it. Peter was able to make this difficult subject alive, build his knowledge in the different subdisciplines earlier in the year and connected them together towards the end. We`re now waiting for the exam results, due in a few weeks... I have rated the tutorhunt website only 4 stars because I think they keep charging a high fee for the whole duration of the tutoring year whereas lessons tend to happen over other apps. Therefore in my opinion, whereas the fee is totally justified when connecting the tutor and the student and enabling feedback it does however seems excessive over whole duration.
