Information about Sarah

I am a qualified Primary School Teacher with over fourteen years of teaching experience. I am also a mother to two boys of primary school age.. I adore children and feel passionate that all children have the right to succeed and fulfil their full potential. I am calm, caring and gentle and I have always been praised for this in regards to my classroom management and relationships with pupils. I feel my time with children in the classroom and now my experience as a mother have given me a huge insight into child development and the ways in which children learn for which I have a huge respect for. I am highly organised and hard working and pay great attention to detail. I like to give my all to everything that I do and my aim is to inspire and motivate children to achieve.
My style is personalised, interactive and multi-sensory. I believe children should be active learners and take control of their own learning journey. I will be there to support, praise, motivate and encourage. I believe in solving problems and finding the answers together. I believe in involving children in the assessment and feedback process so that they are clear about what their next steps are. I can adapt my teaching to suit children across the entire primary age range. I have access to and thorough understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum. I know what children`s expected levels are and I can assist them to achieve the desired outcomes at the end of Foundation Stage, Year One Phonics check and the Key Stage One and Two SATs tests. I can also target reading, writing and maths tuition to give children the support that they require.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have taught children across the primary age range from Early Years up to and including Key Stage 2. I have experience of teaching all National Curriculum subjects including the core English, Maths and Science. I am highly experienced in teaching children to read and teaching Phonics. I believe all learning should be personalised to the individual in order to achieve successful outcomes. I like to celebrate individual achievements and boost pupils` self-confidence. I aim to create a culture of self-belief and determination. My goal is to make learning fun and interactive and include creative use of games, songs, rhymes and actions in my teaching. I promote reading for pleasure as I truly believe reading skills are crucial for accessing the whole curriculum and gaining a wealth of new learning and knowledge.
I have privately tutored many pupils since turning my hand to one-to-one tuition in 2016 and had great success in boosting children`s confidence and achievement. I have supported children taking the Year One Phonics test and the Key Stage One and Key Stage Two SATs. Through tutoring, I have been able to support children with entrance exams to public schools. My pupils have gained admissions to Bedford Modern, Bedford School and Kings, Ely. I have also successfully tutored pupils through their 11+ preparation.
