Information about Akshat
I am a first year university student at Imperial College London with a passion for learning, teaching and a genuine interest for science. As a studious, high level academic achiever, I am proud to be studying Medicine at Imperial with 4 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. These grades will be an amazing foundation for teaching these subjects effectively, which will be enhanced by my patience, problem solving and communication. All of these skills will allow me to be a great tutor to children of all ages and capabilities.
Availability: Available every weekday evening, and any time on the weekends.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have tutored two 11+ students and a GCSE student in biology. I went through the syllabus, asking questions after every part of teaching to ensure they understood, explained topics and made notes for students to refer to. I then assigned practice questions and marked these for homework. I would then analyse and evaluate which topics the students did worse on during lessons and homework to build a plan and determine which topics to focus on. I was more than able to adapt my teaching style to suit the student and their respective tests.
I would go through past papers with my GCSE student, emphasising the importance of exam technique and learning the phrases commonly on the mark scheme.
As a result, all three students achieved good grades, with one of the 11+ students achieving full marks in the maths section.
This has given me experience in teaching, and has taught me the importance of using good communication skills to help convey ideas, active listening to fully understand the student, and critical thinking to break down the students strengths and weakness to create a plan that will be most beneficial to the student.
I am confident I will be able to use what I have learnt to tailor tutoring sessions specifically to students, so they gain the most out of it, whilst also making sessions engaging and enjoyable.
