I am Richard and have a degree in Mathematics from the University of Manchester and also achieved an A grade in Mathematics at A-Level. I am passionate and enthusiastic about the elegant nature of the field of Mathematics and wish to inspire and motivate students so that they get a better and deeper understanding of the subject that will spark their interest, increase their confidence and encourage their own enthusiasm. My aim is to improve on a student’s expected grade by using a combination of supplementing their school coursework, refreshing areas that the student struggles to understand, and running through past paper questions to better prepare students for their exams.

I have a calm, polite and patient approach to help students get to grips and properly understand the fundamental concepts of Mathematics. I listen and watch the student carefully to see if the penny has dropped for a particular topic, and if not, use a different approach until the topic has properly landed. Breaking mathematical concepts down into every day simple examples that a student can understand is a key element of getting engagement and will lead to a better outcome for the student. My mantra as a tutor is to check that a student understands the topic and can call upon the relevant technique to solve problems.

I have two daughters, one who has just completed her GCSEs and one who is about to take her GCSEs this academic year. I have thoroughly enjoyed tutoring my eldest daughter the elegance of Mathematics and giving her the support and encouragement needed to grasp the various topics within the subject with the result of her achieving a Grade 9 in her GCSE Mathematics exam. I am following the same tried and tested approach with my youngest daughter as she prepares for her GCSEs next Summer.
