Information about Kavina

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I am dedicated to providing quality education and would love to help you and your child reach your goals through my services as a Tutor.

To the Parents/Guardians,
I know that through simply being on this site, looking for a Tutor, that you are passionate about getting your child the best education and opportunities that you are able, and I can assure you that I will be just as dedicated. I know from my experience working as a tutor, that pushing your child to study and achieve their potential can often become a burden on your relationship as parent and child. As an outside adult I always want to make sure that I am the adult who pushes and teaches and that you are the adult who gets to enjoy rewarding them, as it should be!
I believe that education is about the process of developing and honing skill-sets required to become our own thinkers and to learn effectively. In my sessions I aim to equip my students not only with the information and techniques required to pass exams, but with the study skills, confidence and good habits that will make them effective learners for life. Developing these skills will help them to enjoy their studies and pursue their interests without limitation. I will get to know you and your child, we will identify their strengths and weaknesses and create a realistic plan using my experience and our collective knowledge. This will cover the techniques and content required by the qualification/exam they are studying for as well as incorporate the development of key skills and habits, tailored to their style of learning. If you have any questions that I have not answered here then please do not hesitate to ask!

To the students,
Hello, I hope you`re well. I wanted to write a little message to you too because a) It’ll just be us two in the sessions and b) I know how stressful and hard school and exams can be, without thinking about extra work from a Tutor! I want to assure you that as your Tutor I won`t only be there to teach you, but I can be there to listen if you`re worried about anything and to help you relax about your studies and really begin to enjoy them. I promise that while I will definitely expect you to work hard, that we will have fun and work together until all the hard work seems easy and you can pass your exam with one hand tied behind your back!
(Disclaimer: I don`t recommend tying your hand behind your back for effective study!)

Have a great day and hope to meet you soon!

Experience: I myself had a little tutelage that helped me to have my pick of Grammar schools at the age of 11 (I chose King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School). I worked hard to gain straight A`s and A*`s at GCSE (11, including French and History) and an AAB at A-level (also at K.E.H.S). These grades then allowed me to gain one of twelve places on a joint-honors, English and Theatre studies course at The University of Bristol. When I graduated with a DipHE in 2014 I knew that I wanted to work with children and help them to navigate their formal and informal education so I undertook an apprenticeship at an Outstanding Private Nursery for a year, gaining my NVQ level 3 in Early Years Education wherein I helped children to transition from home-life into their earliest glimpses of formal education (EYFS) alongside helping the parents feel at ease with the transition and ensuring they were more than happy with the quality of care. I finished my NVQ in August 2016 and am now pursuing my PGCE in Primary Education, while acting as a Year 6 T.A and SATS tutor in school.

I have tutored for four families over the past 2 years, it began with one child from each and then as time went on and the younger and older siblings needed support in school or in exams, I was asked to stay on. This has been the most surprising and wonderful part about my experience as a tutor, becoming part of a family unit! All of the families I`ve taught have gone on to be successful in their exams and teachers have noted their change in attitude to learning at school.

Extra curricular:

Education comes in many shapes and sizes and we learn most from what we are passionate about I love reading, swimming, music and helping people. I read and swim almost daily, as a singer I have been in bands from Jazz to Folk and I am regularly involved in humanitarian projects both organised myself and by others. I have worked with SEN children on a ‘sensory bus’ and volunteer regularly with a Reading Charity called Beanstalk. Family is very important to me and I live at home with my parents and Grandparents from whom I learnt to speak Punjabi and cook delicious meals from scratch. Everything from Music to my Mother have taught me important lessons in life and I have always been inspired by my teachers to teach others how to find their own joy in learning too.
