Information about Kristina
CELTA qualified, enthusiastic English (EFL/ESOL and 11+) tutor with plenty of experience teaching online. My students currently range from as young as 10 to 40+ all with varying levels of English.
In my lessons, I work to make students feel as at ease as possible and make sure they feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. I tailor lessons to students` interests to ensure students are engaged and motivated to work hard. I want to help you develop a passion for the language, whilst also striving to help you achieve your full potential.
I recently graduated from the University of Bath with a 2:1 in Modern Languages and European Studies (German and Spanish). As part of my studies, I lived in both Germany and Spain which gave me first-hand experience of learning and practising my languages in an authentic context. I also have basic level Russian and conversational Slovak so I have a real understanding of the importance of fluency in communicating effectively.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have completed my CELTA qualification with a Pass B grade where I taught students from many different backgrounds and with varying levels of English. I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the students and making sure that my online classroom was as welcoming and engaging as an in-person classroom would be. My colleagues, as well as my students, also highlighted the good rapport I fostered in each lesson.
I achieved A*s at GCSE in English Language and English Literature and As at A-Level for both German and Spanish and then achieved a 2:1 in these languages at degree level, living abroad as part of my university studies. This means I have a great understanding of both languages in an academic context, as well as "in the real world". At university, I gave many presentations, whether that was as part of my studies, or in my role as Student Ambassador. Within my classes, I gave many individual and group presentations and so I have plenty of experience in articulating myself and condensing information in a way that is clear and understandable.
My own experiences of language learning, both in and outside of the classroom, provide me with a certain level of empathy and understanding that only serves to improve my teaching. I can reflect on my own experiences of learning a language and show an active understanding of which areas students might find particularly difficult. I am also active in keeping lessons student-centred, as I know how much more beneficial this style of learning can be!
