Information about Lucy
I have a upper second class degree in French, and I`m a French teacher, working in a school in North London. Not your typical hard-hitting grammar lover, I know the importance of developing a real love for a subject in order to be truly successful at it. Finding the things that you are interested in, helps to develop an intrinsic love of a subject that filters outwards, making you more successful at even the bits you find boring and hard. This approach means I`ve been able to help students of all levels and abilities achieve their full academic potential.
Outside of the classroom, my real love is the ocean, and as a qualified scuba diving instructor I have spent many a happy hour under the surface and travelling the world. I am also a keen sportswoman and an avid reader.
Availability: Avaliable most term-day weeknights and some weekends, as well as varied school holiday availability.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I am currently working as a teacher in a secondary academy in North London. I get to work with pupils all day, every day, with a complete range of abilities and interests. I am fortunate enough to work with some truly outstanding lead practitioners, sharing the most effective teaching techniques and constantly striving to improve and refine my practice. In addition, I strive to keep up-to-date with the various exam specifications to ensure that what I am teaching is relevant and supports exam success, whilst not omitting any interest building anecdotes which help build the passion around a subject. I have extensive experience with students who have special educational needs and have built a toolkit of strategies to help all my students realise their full potential.
My teaching practice is grounded in evidence-based practice, supported with educational theories, bringing together cognitive science and what I know works practically, to ensure a child has the best possible chance of success. I believe that academic rigour is driven by two key building blocks - knowledge and skill. Being able to recall previous academic knowledge, and apply the same skills allows for greater learning, and greater knowledge retention. Essentially - the more you know, the more you are able to know. As your tutor, I will help you develop the essential knowledge and skills to help you go on to further develop your own academia. Whilst knowledge is essential for exam success, it goes without saying that there are skills and techniques needed to be able to learn a language and this is the second part of what I would be developing whilst tutoring you. I am a firm believer that with the new and extremely demanding specifications for all subjects, it is time to start helping students work smarter not harder. Deliberate practice supports this idea by ensuring you are making your time as impactful as possible. There is a third focus area that I will help students develop - exam technique. Knowledge and skill should be the main focus of developing real understanding and academic resilience but in the run up to exams it is important to ensure that students are able to provide the examiner with what they are looking for. I will provide you with constant tuition of how to interpret exam questions, and in the final stages before an exam we can run through past papers together to help you think like an examiner.
