Information about Elisabeth
I am an experienced Spanish teacher with a BA in French and Spanish from London University. I returned to the UK in 2014 after living in a Spanish-speaking country (Nicaragua) for nearly 14 years. While there I taught Spanish to adults, tailoring the lessons according to each individual`s needs and abilities. Since returning to the UK I have been teaching and tutoring Spanish to both adults and children of all levels and abilities. I have lots of experience teaching both online and in person (currently socially distanced).
Having learnt Spanish from scratch myself I understand my students difficulties and am able to explain grammatical concepts in a way that is easy for them to understand. Having lived for a long time in a Spanish-speaking country, I have also lived the language and speak it fluently.
My lessons are fun and interactive and aim to help you to enjoy learning Spanish, as well as to learn efficiently, so as to be able to communicate well and (where necessary) to do well in an exam.
My beginners lessons cover all the basics in a logical and easy to understand way. My pupils are often encouraged by how quickly they learn not just words and phrases, but how to put sentences together for themselves, enabling them to communicate quickly in Spanish (a very rewarding level to reach!).
When teaching or tutoring GCSE I focus on all four areas to be examined (reading, writing, listening, speaking). I also cover all the required topics and grammar areas (and more, depending on the pupil`s ability and enthusiasm), as well as doing exam techniques and practice.
For A Level I cover all the required grammar and topic areas, as well as essay writing skills, exam techniques and practice and lots of conversation practice.
Degree-level lessons are guided by what each individual would like to focus on.
At all levels I aim to encourage pupils to develop an interest in the incredibly varied Spanish-speaking world, for example through reading articles, watching videos of native speakers talking about their country, or discussing history, culture or politics (depending on the interests of the pupil).
Due to cancelled lessons and exams as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, I am now also offering Covid-19 catch up sessions for GCSE and A Level pupils. Please do enquire if you are interested.
I am happy to try to pair/group people up with other pupils where possible, in order to be able to interact with each other in Spanish as well as to make lessons more affordable!
Please get in touch if you are interested!
Thanks.

Libby is a very experienced tutor and has provided my daughter with some really useful resources. She manages to stretch my daughter without causing her to feel pressure, structures my daughter`s sessions with thought and consideration and has helped motivate her to work harder.

Libby is patient, knowledgeable an a flexible tutor. I would highly recommend her, she has been excellent with my 13 year old son, teaching him Spanish from scratch.
