Information about Laura
Hello, my name is Laura, I am 32 years old and a fully qualified, DBS checked primary school teacher currently working in Gillingham, Kent. I have been teaching for nine years within Medway schools, and working with children is my passion. Nothing beats that `lightbulb` moment when a child grasps a new concept, and I find tutoring especially rewarding because you get to see that progress close-up.
A little bit about me - I grew up in Medway myself, attending Fort Pitt Grammar School and graduating sixth form in 2003 with glowing A Levels. I then attended Lancaster University, where I studied English Literature and achieved a 2:1 BA. I became a teaching assistant at Riverside Primary School and fell in love with primary education. By the end of that year I realised that I had found what I wanted to do with my life, and the next year completed my PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University (2009). I got my first teaching job, and then began tutoring shortly afterwards.
I aim to provide a high quality, professional and bespoke tutoring service, catering to the needs of each family and child. I specialise in 11+ tuition and have seen good results each year from the families I have tutored, some of whom have provided references here.
If you choose me to be your child`s tutor, I can guarantee you my dedication, my experience, my vast subject knowledge, my passion for teaching, and my promise that I will do the very best for your child. Please do not hesitate to get in touch and discuss your specific requirements.
Availability: From my own home, I am available after school (4pm onwards) and weekends. This can be a better experience as I have a lot of extra resources I can use at home to help assist learning.
I am also able to travel (weekends only) and tutor any time Saturday and Sunday, all I ask is that there is a relatively quiet area in which we can work in your home.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring children since I qualified as a teacher in 2009, mainly helping students to improve their test scores for SATS and the Kent Test/11+ examinations. However I am flexible and am able to work to a child`s individual needs, such as working on subjects they struggle with in new, engaging ways that help them with their recall and enjoyment of the topic. I am known for getting good results and seeing quick progress.
As an English Literature graduate and specialist, I am also able to help coach older children working towards their English GCSEs.
