ENTRANCE EXAMS, 11 PLUS 13 PLUS

I am a patient, dedicated and ambitious full time tutor with over eight years experience of teaching and motivating students to reach their potential and build confidence.
Throughout this time have taught students privately at home and online. Additionally, l also have extensive experience of teaching Maths in a number of Primary and Secondary schools.
During the past two years, have worked at length, on the National Tutoring Programme, providing tuition to ensure pupils catch up following the disruption caused by the pandemic.
I have completed in excess of 4000 hours of tuition and have experience of working with a wide range of ages and abilities, from students struggling or not eager to work, to keeping gifted students challenged.
My lessons are carefully planned and tailored to each students need, to progress and advance. I excel at breaking down problems to build up a solution. Although l am thorough, i am not overwhelming and can deliver tuition to a high standard.

As a Tutor, l am patient, approachable and quick to build a professional rapport with my pupils and parents . This encourages pupils to participate and creates a good learning environment.

My students are seen to grow in confidence and improve their grades.
I too am fluent with the national curriculum and exam boards.

I too come from a mathematical background being a qualified Chartered Accountant. Whilst working in this profession studied and passed the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants qualification ( CIMA ) in 1992.
Working in Chartered Accountancy further developed my understanding of how numbers work, as while as recognising the importance of being able to analyse and reason out problems.

GCSE MATHS EXPERIENCE

I have inexcess of eight years experience of teaching GCSE Maths privately and in schools.

My classes are tailored to individual need, to build confidence and ability. Lessons provide depth and explanation to ensure students develop a fluent understanding of all the concepts and techniques studied at GCSE level. I am thorough when teaching mathematical concepts, ensuring that work is understood, Topic areas and problems are broken down and built back up, to ensure pupils grasp each stage. My teaching approach also makes sure pupils develop the skills to reason and apply Maths and think logically.
Additionally, I work to resolve all the underlying problems and gaps which hinder progress, whilst also focus on making sure students understand Maths rather than simply remembering procedures.
During lessons, l use a large number of carefully selected worked examples which help build up the students’ understanding and ability to solve problems. In addition, l provide notes and worked examples to accompany lessons which the student can retain for reference purposes.
Students also gain experience of answering past GCSE questions which enhances learning, improves exam technique and builds confidence. My tuition ensures students become proficient with correctly intrepreting questions, and understanding the problem. In addition, students become capable of demonstrating their ability in answering questions.


KS3 MATHS EXPERIENCE

I have inexcess of eight years experience of teaching KS3 Maths privately and in schools.
My classes are carefully planned and tailored to individual ability, need and to build confidence. I am thorough when introducing and teaching mathematical concepts, ensuring that work is understood, Topic areas and problems are broken down and built back up, to ensure pupils grasp each stage My approach also makes sure pupils develop the skills to reason and apply Maths and think logically.
At every stage pupils practice answering questions of increasing difficulty. This enhances learning, builds confidence and improves exam technique. Good exam technique is crucial to interpreting and answering questions correctly, however due to the wording of questions area students tend to fall down on.
Additionally, I work to resolve all the underlying problems and gaps hindering the progress of my students. l also focus on ensuring students understand Maths rather than simply remembering procedures.

Pupils are always extremely well prepared to progress and tackle the challenges of GCSE Maths.
I too, have lots of worked examples which build up topic areas, l provide notes, worked examples and questions to accompany lessons.

ENTRANCE EXAMS

l have some eight years extensive experience of teaching students preparing to sit Entrance Exams.
Additionally, I too worked for an organisation, The Stretch Academy, which was specifically established to provide
Consequently l am well versed with the entrance exams to a number of top grammar schools.

I too have a good track history of success, and sometime ago also sat and passed 11 plus entrance exams. Therefore do fully understand the underlying objectives of these exams and what is needed to be successful.
Lessons are carefully planned and tailored to build the pupil’s ability and confidence. It is essential to ensure pupils have a good understanding of all the topics tested by these exams, particularly as certain areas are not studied in school. My classes provide the depth and explanation needed in such areas.

At every level pupils practice answering questions of increasing difficulty until competent. This approach also installs confidence which has a huge impact on learning.
Emphasis is also placed on practicing past English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning papers. This enhances learning and ensures pupils develop the skills to reason and apply work. In addition, such practice vastly improves exam technique, such as interpreting questions correctly and timing.
I use lots of carefully selected worked examples to build up knowledge and provide students with notes, examples and questions to accompany lessons.
