I was born in Bristol. After completing my first degree, I spent some time as a professional theatre actor, before moving into teaching. Teaching soon became a calling and it eventually led me to teach overseas in some top international schools in the Far east. Whilst the experience was life-changing, my wife and I were keen to give our two Primary age sons a British education near family. This prompted our return five years ago and I have taught English in secondary schools in the North West ever since. These teaching experiences have been formative and I have learned a lot about progressive techniques. However, subject knowledge is key to gaining cultural capital and I am fortunate to have been able to call this a strength over the years. I have been lucky to work in schools with a strong academic ethos and sound collegial values which I uphold wherever I can. I am a lover of learning and I have added two Masters degrees to my list of qualifications since graduating from University with an English degree.

Experience: I am an experienced teacher of both English Language and Literature at secondary level. I have also held head of department roles in the U.K and abroad. Over the last two years, up until the covid-19 outbreak (which caused so many schools to close), I was teaching at an outstanding 11-18 school in Staffordshire and prior to that, at another outstanding school in Cheshire. I have been a qualified secondary teacher since 2004 and have been teaching in diverse educational settings for 18 years in total. During that time, I have taught a wide variety of syllabi to a range of students including gifted high achievers as well as students who require highly differentiated teaching or specific strategies to help them better access the curriculum. Over time, I am grateful that I have been able to develop an immersive but precise style of teaching and my strong examination results are testament to that I hope.
